The Beginning
Sitting round the dining table was always our favourite time of the day, it meant it was time for family and food. We would sometimes sit for hours; exchanging stories, often eating wonderful food (but not always!) and spending quality time as a family.
We would often talk about one day opening a restaurant, it always seemed to be a passion that we shared between us. Some of us worked in restaurants, some of us managed restaurants, some of us had run chains of restaurants and some of us loved eating in restaurants! Even with varying degrees of experience, we all knew that we wanted to create somewhere for friends and families to celebrate, to laugh and to share an experience which was different to other high street restaurants.
The Restaurant(s)
Back in November 2014 after planning, building, painting, training, laughing and crying (with a trip to Italy squeezed in to learn how to make gelato) our distant dream finally came a reality. We had a restaurant. The opening months were a real shock to the system; long days, little sleep and all the normal issues that you encounter as a young business. In those opening few years, we tried tirelessly to become a part of the community and share our family values as far and wide as possible.
A New Venture?
Fast forward 9 years, The Works now has 2 restaurants, continues to strive to be a pillar in its local communities and, most importantly, still manufactures gelato every day! Just before the dreaded ‘C-Word’, we started to gain some interest from other business owners who wanted to put our gelato on to their menus. What an honour! The decision was easy, of course we wanted to develop flavours for other people, but how do we make that a reality?

After a lot of head scratching, scribbling ideas down and eating a load of gelato, we had come up with the answers. Our recipes had been made even better, our production space was ready to go and then plan was set. We were ready to launch ‘The Works Gelato’.

The Works Gelato strives to be an innovator in the gelato world, creating new, different, and exciting flavours that the market hasn’t seen before. These products are always on-trend but pushing the boundaries of what people have done before us. It. Is a business to business operation that spreads our love for small batch, hand crafted gelato. Whatever the ‘flavour of the month’ may be, our product is never compromised in quality. We will always use high-quality, fresh, and where possible, local ingredients to max out flavours that deliver the wow factor.
We have now developed over 50 flavours of gelato and sorbet, from Vanilla Pod to Bakewell Tart - there really is something for everyone!
